A Day of Senior Living
at The Residence at St. Peter's in NJ

We’d like to walk you through what a typical day looks like at The Residence at St. Peter’s, a warm senior support community in River Edge, NJ. While every day can be slightly different, one thing’s for sure: they are all filled with opportunities for socialization, relaxation, and engagement! Here, our residents enjoy a home-like atmosphere enriched with a variety of activities, delicious meals, and the support of a caring, professional team. Let us show you how our residents live full and active lives in a setting designed to feel like home.

Wake Up Folks!

Every morning at The Residence begins in our cozy apartments, where residents wake up to the gentle light streaming through their windows. You’ll always find Miss Mary K. dressed to the nines each morning. She’s 104 years old and we can’t say she’s ever repeated an outfit! Whether residents prefer to start the day early like Mary K. or sleep in, they have the freedom to create a morning routine that suits them. One of our favorite moments each morning is when our Irish resident, Eamon (pictured left) asks, “Is it Irish coffee?” to whoever is manning the coffee pot.

Did Someone Say Food?

Mealtime is a special event at The Residence at St. Peter's. Our residents enjoy three home-cooked meals a day, prepared with care by our talented culinary team. Breakfast is served in our inviting communal dining room, where residents gather to start their day with coffee, delicious food and friendly conversation. For lunch and dinner, we offer a variety of nutritious and flavorful options, accommodating all dietary needs and preferences. Most days, you will find our resident, Kevin (pictured on the left), at an all guys table chatting about the ladies. He’s still on the hunt for a good woman!

Here’s what Executive Director, Gina Principato, has to say about observing residents like Kevin in the dining room each day:

“Gratitude is a part of my daily routine. I have been grateful for the pleasurable work I do at The Residence at St. Peter’s. However, one recent early morning at work, I received clarity of our purpose here at The Residence. I was observing the interaction of the residents in the dining room. I witnessed the love and compassion displayed as they helped each other with breakfast, helped those with shaking hands pour coffee, shared the newspaper, welcomed the day with morning salutations, and one resident even kissed each resident good morning. My gratitude for my “job” changed that day. I am grateful to have the privilege and honor to serve our seniors, to know them, to listen to their stories, listen to their woes, empathize with their pain, and watch their joy. I am grateful for the ability to serve them with compassion.”

Seniors Can Always Find Something Fun to Do During the Day

At The Residence at St. Peter's, we have a lot going on! Our residents have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities designed to keep the mind sharp, the body active, and the spirit happy. Whether it’s chair yoga in the morning or enjoying happy hour on Fridays, our daily schedule is packed with fun and meaningful activities. Did we mention Bingo? Our resident champions, 78 year old Mary Ellen and 94 year old Rosa, do not miss a single game! Residents can also venture out by strolling to the nearby Van Saun County Park or local church. Everyday, Mary Ellen asks Rosa if she would like to walk with her to church. On days where Rosa isn’t up for the walk, she responds with, “It’s not good to bother God everyday.”

If residents would rather relax and take it easy, they are always welcome to curl up with a good book from our well-stocked library, or sun on the deck with Ralph and Domenico (pictured above). When the sun is out, you will always find those two working on their beach tan! Others join in organized games in the common room. During baseball season, you’ll see our fashionista, Mary K., lounging and others in front of the T.V. rooting for the New York Yankees but don't worry, Met fans are well represented too at the Residence.

Time to Unwind and Get a Good Night's Sleep

As the day winds down, our resident, Diane (pictured on the left), likes to take note of upcoming events. She’s our hospitality gal and likes taking charge by sending handwritten cards for every occasion. Birthdays, thank you’s, get well cards - you name it and Diane helps stamp and send them out before the day is done! After residents like Diane wrap up their days, they retreat to their private apartments for a good night's sleep. With the comfort and reassurance of 24-hour staff support, they can rest easy knowing that help is always available if needed. Our team is here to ensure a peaceful night, whether it’s assisting with nighttime medication or doing a check in before bed, every resident feels safe and secure at the Residence.
